'Skimming' a credit card utilises similar technology to that used by legitimate electronic card readers, used by most retailers. The skimmer swipes the card through their device, which then copies the card magnetic stripe details into its memory. The details of up to two hundred and fifty cards can be held in memory by these little inconspicuous units.
To combat skimming, make sure that when you pay for a meal, petrol, clothes or any goods that you have purchased, the card never leaves your sight.
